Introduction
The objective of War is for a player to have a
higher number than the dealer. If the value of the player’s card is
higher than the dealer’s, then the player wins equal to the amount
wagered. In the case where the value of the player’s card and the
dealer’s card is the same, the player can either fold or choose to
“go to war” by raising. If the player folds, the amount wagered is
automatically lost. If the player raises, an amount equal to the
original wager is added to the bet and both the dealer and player
receive several cards down, and another card face-up. The highest
face-up card wins. In the case of a win, player receives a win in the
amount equal to the total wager. For example, a player’s wager is $5,
the dealer’s wager is $5 and the player raises $5. The player would
win the total amount of the wager, which is $15 (since the dealer never
raised). However, if the card is lower than that of the dealer, the
player loses the wager (in the case above, the player would lose $10).
If after a war the player and the dealer have the same card value, then
the player wins – the player wins a second tie.

Rules
Prior to
receiving any cards, the player must place a wager.
Once the wager is made, the player is dealt one card face up.
The dealer is also dealt one card face up.
In the event there is a tie and the player chooses to raise an
amount equal to the wager is added to the bet; both the dealer and the
player are each dealt three cards face down. These cards are known as
“burn cards” and will remain face down. Following the burn cards,
both the dealer and the player are dealt a final card (face up). If the
player's second card either beats or ties the dealer's second card then
the player wins.
